Summer

As summer starts to settle in and the school year winds down, I can reflect on some of the positive experiences we have accomplished with this project. The Community Unity project started out as an idea to develop a partnership with another community through technology and music and developed into an original song and video and interactive blogging relationship. Throughout this process, I was able to meet and work with amazing people. Our students have created and collaborated on something truly unique and we are all fortunate to have worked with each other. Thank you for participating and sharing in this project and I hope you continue to visit this site and contribute your ideas. Have a great summer!

Music Project

As the school year is nearing an end, the grade five students at Kelsey Community School have been hard at work on music projects.  Their task was to do research on a favorite artist and their song and put together a video presentation. Since we are busy working on these projects, we would like to ask...

Who is your favorite artist and why?  What is your favorite song to listen to?

Spring Break

With Spring Break approaching, we look forward to melting snow and ice to clear the way for warmer weather and greener surroundings. Spring Break is always a time where we can rest up from the long stretch of winter and prepare ourselves for the last stretch of learning and activities to round out the school year. I always welcome this time of year and plan out many fun activities with my friends and family.

What does Spring Break mean to you, and what kinds of things do you have planned?

Rick Mercer at the Trapper's Festival

Here is last year's video spot on the Trapper's Festival.  We were very fortunate to have Rick Mercer celebrate the 2010 Trapper's Festival.

Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival 2011

In The Pas, the winter months can be filled with lots of snow, ice, high windchills, and cold weather, but our community is very fortunate to have several activities to warm our hearts! Every year in mid-February, our town pulls out all the stops to celebrate the Northern Manitoba Trapper's Festival.  This year's motto: Trapper's Heaven in 2011.  Allow the grade five's of Kelsey Community School to tell you all about it!

Reflections

It has been amazing to read all of the comments about our Community Unity project so far. The song and video have served to create a catalyst for interaction and reflection on what makes our communities unique and special. As our project develops, we will be posting questions for further personal reflection to deepen our understanding of what community is all about. Thinking about all of your own interests and hobbies, family and friends...

What is your own personal favourite thing about your community?
